Abstract:
The purposes of this study was two fold : to study and compare the desired characteristics of primary school administrators as perceived by teacher officials and members of the basic educational institution board as they were classified according to genders, educational levels, and school sizes.
The sample group consisted of 196 teacher officials working at primary schools and 171 members of basic educational institution board, attached to Anatchareon Office of Educational Service Area in 2004 , accounting for a total number of 367 subjects selected by means of the proportionate stratified random sampling. The research instrument was a forty two item questionnaire with a five level Likert scale, which yielded the reliability value of .85. The statistic procedures used to analyze the data included percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t- test, and F- test.
The research findings were as follows:
1. The teachers and the members of basic educational institution boards wanted the primary school administrators to have the overall desired characteristics and the characteristics in the aspects of personality, creative thinking, teamwork development, and vision at a high level.
2. There was no significant difference in the opinions regarding the overall desired characteristics of the primary school administrators between the teacher officials and the members of basic educational institution boards.
3. There was significant difference in the opinions regarding the overall desired characteristics of the primary school administrators among the teacher officials and the members of the basic educational institution boards whose genders were different.
4. There was significant difference in the opinions regarding the overall desired characteristics of the primary school administrators among the teacher officials and the members of the basic educational institution boards whose educational levels were different.
5. There was significant difference in the opinions regarding the overall and individual aspects of the desired characteristics of the primary school administrators among the teacher officials and the members of the basic educational institution boards schools were different in size.
