Abstract:
This thesis analyzes economic effects of the tourism policies upon on Amphur Muang, Ayutthaya Province, which have built upon the original cultural capital within such province. The study finds that, firstly, process of policy implementation and management in Ayutthaya consists of bureaucratic entities in the province, local administrative organization, Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Fine Arts Department under Ministry of Culture and organizations and departments in the private sector, including charity organizations. Secondly, the tourism policy in Ayutthaya can be conceived as structured by: first, public policy ; second, marketing strategies for tourism ; and, third, extra and interesting activities within Ayutthaya. Thirdly, the process of policy formulation and implementation with public-private cooperation does contribute to the growth of tourism in Ayutthaya, which is illustrated from an annually increasing number of tourists as well as continuously increasing revenues and the established reputation of Ayutthaya as an international tourist spot. Fourthly, the study finds that "cultural capital" is an important factor in promoting the growth of tourism industry in Ayutthaya. Fifthly , Ayutthaya is endowed with factors of production, which are capital, or culture ; labor, or all personals that help add value to the tourism industry ; and, lastly, land, or the areas encompassing historical parks. Sixthly, it can be analyzed that cultural capital of Ayutthaya can be categorized into two types, which are embodied cultural capital and objectified cultural capital. From the findings, this can study concludes that without cultural capital, the tourism industry in Ayutthaya could not have grown to be what it is today.
