A study of the correlation between the physical activity and the cognitive function in patients with schizophrenia

Abstract: This study aimed to examine the correlation between physical activity and cognitive function in patients with schizophrenia. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted by applying self-reporting after being questioned consisting of 1)demographic data 2) physical activity questionnaire 3) cognitive function assessment. The amount of sample is 167 patients with schizophrenia among 18-50 years old who received treatment at the Psychiatric Outpatient Unit or Day Hospital of Siriraj Hospital were included by purposive sampling. However, due to the Coronavirus disease 2019 ( COVID-19) pandemic, only 48 volunteers were recruited for data collection. The results of this study showed that there is no significant correlation between physical activity and cognitive function ( r=.072) . The domain of physical activity that the sample did the most is travel-related ( 40%) and the least is work-related (27.14%). The prevalence of physical inactivity is 27.08%. The prevalence of cognitive impairment is 60.4%. Future research should include more samples of patients with schizophrenia.

Abstract: งานวิจัยนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างกิจกรรมทางกายและกระบวนการรู้คิดในผู้ป่วยโรคจิตเภท เป็นการวิจัยเชิงพรรณนาแบบสำรวจภาคตัดขวางโดยให้ผู้ป่วยตอบแบบสอบถามตามที่ผู้วิจัยอ่านให้ฟัง ประกอบด้วย 1) ข้อมูลส่วนบุคคล 2) แบบสอบถามกิจกรรมทางกายระดับโลก 3) แบบประเมินกระบวนการรู้คิด เก็บข้อมูลในผู้ป่วยโรคจิตเภทอายุ 18-50 ปี ที่มารับการรักษาที่หน่วยตรวจโรคจิตเวชศาสตร์และหน่วยฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพ อาคารผู้ป่วยนอก โรงพยาบาลศิริราช จำนวน 167 คน แต่เนื่องจากสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนา-2019 (โควิด-19) ทำให้รวบรวมกลุ่มตัวอย่างได้ 48 คน ใช้วิธีการสุ่มแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง ผลของการศึกษาครั้งนี้พบว่ากิจกรรมทางกายและกระบวนการรู้คิดไม่มีความสัมพันธ์กันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (r=.072) กิจกรรมทางกายในผู้ป่วยนั้นมีกิจกรรมทางกายการเดินทางมากที่สุด (40%) และมีกิจกรรมทางกายการทำงานน้อยที่สุด (27.14%) ความชุกของการมีกิจกรรมทางกายที่ไม่เพียงพอของผู้ป่วยคิดเป็น 27.08% ส่วนกระบวนการรู้คิดในผู้ป่วยนั้นมีภาวะการรู้คิดบกพร่อง (60.4%) การศึกษาในอนาคตนั้นควรเพิ่มจำนวนกลุ่มตัวอย่าง
