Factors affecting behaviours of returning post-consumer textile waste in Thailand
Abstract:
This study examines the factors affecting behaviours of returning post-consumer textile waste in Thailand. A quantitative research approach was adopted, and data were collected through a structured questionnaire survey. Based on relevant literature, five factors were examined: recycling awareness, social influence, institutional support, recycling infrastructure, and economic motivation. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyse the effects of these factors on consumers participation intention in textile waste reverse logistics.
The findings show that all five factors have significant positive effects on participation intention. Among them, recycling awareness has the strongest influence, followed by institutional support, while social influence, economic motivation, and recycling infrastructure also contribute significantly. The results indicate that both individual awareness and external support are important in promoting consumers willingness to return, donate, resell, or recycle post-consumer textile waste through reverse logistics channels in Thailand.
This study provides useful implications for policymakers, local authorities, recycling organizations, and related stakeholders in improving consumer participation and supporting textile waste collection, sorting, reuse, and recycling systems. It also contributes to the understanding of consumer participation in reverse logistics and sustainable textile waste management in Thailand.
