Development of multimedia materials on chiffon cake making a popular pastry Subject for short-term vocational course students at Siphraya Polytechnic College
Abstract:
Instructional media can facilitate student learning and can be used as part of
a collaborative learning process between instructors and learners. This research
aimed to: 1) create multimedia on chiffon cake making, a popular pastry subject for
short-term vocational course students at Siphraya Polytechnic College; 2) evaluate
the effectiveness of multimedia on chiffon cake making, a popular pastry subject for
short-course vocational students at Siphraya Polytechnic College; and 3) examine
students' satisfaction with the multimedia on chiffon cake making, a popular pastry
subject for short-course vocational students at Siphraya Polytechnic College. The
sample group consisted of 20 short-term vocational students, selected through a
purposive sampling method. The research tools included: 1) an assessment form for
the suitability of the multimedia on chiffon cake making, 2) a practical skills
evaluation form, and 3) a student satisfaction survey for the multimedia on chiffon
cake making. Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, Inter-
Rater Agreement (IRA) index, and the multimedia efficiency index (E1/E2) based on
the 80/80 criterion. The research findings found that: 1) Learning content on chiffon cake making, divided into three sections: ingredients and tools used for making chiffon cakes, steps for making vanilla chiffon cake, and its application to develop taro custard chiffon cake products, was claimed to be highly suitable. 2) The effectiveness of multimedia on chiffon cake making was 80.00/84.38, higher than the efficiency evaluation criterion of 80/80. Additionally, the overall inter-rater reliability was 0.93, indicating a high level of agreement among raters. 3) Overall, students' satisfaction with the multimedia on chiffon cake making was at the highest level (M= 4.95). This research suggests that multimedia can be used with different groups of learners, and supports the development of instructional materials for short-term vocational programs. This will allow learners to learn from instructors as well as various instructional materials.
