This research aimed to: 1) study good practices in organizing learning using socioscientific issues (SSI)-based teaching, and 2) develop students' critical thinking for that teaching approach. The research participants consisted of 36 10th-grade students from a school in Bangkok. The research instruments included lesson plans, a critical thinking test, observation forms for critical thinking characteristics, post-learning records, and reflective learning diaries. Quantitative data were analyzed using averages and percentages, while qualitative data were analyzed through inductive analysis. The results indicated that effective practices for organizing learning through an SSI-based teaching approach to enhance students' critical thinking included: 1) presenting current issues relevant to students, 2) introducing issues in an engaging manner within a short timeframe, 3) allocating appropriate learning time for each activity step, 4) allowing students to express their potential without direct guidance, and 5) strategically grouping students to foster critical thinking. Furthermore, this teaching approach improved critical thinking, as evidenced by an increase in the average score from 25.86 to 32.75. Among the critical thinking components, identifying preliminary agreements showed the greatest improvement at 26.10%, whereas evaluating arguments exhibited the least growth at 1.40%. Additionally, students most notably developed the ability to think logically without being influenced by bias or emotions. In contrast, the ability to identify arguments and justifications for arguments showed the least development
