Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to 1) compare the reading ability of Grade
1 students before and after learning management based on Brain-Based Learning,
2) compare the reading ability of Grade 1 students after Brain-Based Learning
management with the criteria of 80 % of the full score, and 3) study the learning
retention in Thai subject of Grade 1 students who received Brain-Based Learning
management. The sample consisted of 33 Grade 1 students from Choomchon
Banthungna School, obtained through cluster random sampling. The research
instruments were 1) six Brain-Based Learning lesson plans with the highest appropriate
level (X̅
= 4.81, S.D. = 0.54), and 2) a 20-item reading ability assessment with content
validity between 0.67-1.00, difficulty between 0.36-0.67, discrimination between 0.22 -
0.24, and reliability of 0.72 Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, t-test
for dependent samples, and t-test for one sample.
The research findings were as follows:
1. Grade 1 students who received Brain-Based Learning management had a
mean pre-test score of 12.30 (S.D. = 2.17), and a mean post-test score of 17.39 (S.D. =
1.60). The comparison of reading ability before and after learning revealed that the
post-learning reading ability was significantly higher than pre-learning at the .05 level.
2. Grade 1 students who received Brain-Based Learning management had a
mean post-test score of 17.39 (S.D. = 1.60). The comparison revealed that post-learning
reading ability significantly exceeded the 80% criterion at the .05 level.
3. Grade 1 students who received Brain-Based Learning management
demonstrated learning retention in Thai subject. Their reading ability immediately after
learning was 17.39 (S.D. = 1.60), and after a two-week period it was 17.33 (S.D.= 1.63).
The comparison between these two measurements revealed no significant difference.
