Abstract:
Thailand is one of the world's most significant pineapple producers and exporters. After harvesting, a large amount of unused pineapple leaf waste is plowed to prepare the soil for the next crop or burned. According to the survey, the estimated amount of pineapple leaf waste is more than 40 thousand tons per year. The purpose of this research was to study an overview of pineapple and agro-waste value chains, business process analysis of pineapple leaf fiber, which is the supply chain of the Ban Kha natural fiber community enterprise, and the Sanyai Khon Saenvithi community enterprise, to identify the problems in supply chains, analyze the production cost and perform risk management. Next, propose the guidelines to develop the pineapple leaf fiber value chain. The information in this research was gathered through in-depth interviews with stakeholders in the pineapple leaf fiber supply chain and secondary data. The results showed that the main problems of community enterprises are a lack of cash flow liquidity, no accurate cost calculation, and a profit from the selling of 3.39 %. Moreover, the drying process relies on sunlight and skilled laborers, which leads to a long production lead time. Furthermore, community enterprises should keep the inventory to use in the rainy season. The research of the process design and development of equipment to dry fiber faster. The guidelines for the pineapple leaf fiber value chain are the establishment of a central or government agency that connects market players and establishes measures to support market testing to build confidence and reduce the risk for entrepreneurs, provide funding for training for workers, and allocate funds for research and development of machines to increase productivity. In addition, the community enterprise should operate pineapple fiber full-time. A network of producers, buyers, and intermediaries should be established to fairly distribute pineapple fiber to help ensure further sustainability
