Abstract:
This research aimed to development of eighth-grade students conceptual understanding and application of light and vision. The research objectives were to design learning activity with Transformative Experiences model of eighth-grade students and to compare scientific conceptual understanding and application of light and vision in eighth grade students before and after learning through the Transformative Experiences model. This study used a quasi-experimental research design with 40 eighth-grade students who participated in this study. They were administered the light and vision concept test and a Transformative Experiences survey before and after learning. In addition, students learning worksheets were collected and analyzed. Results indicated that the post-light and vision concept test average score was higher than pre at a significant level .01. The data revealed that the students had high-very high levels of Transformative Experiences in terms of Activated Use (AU) of a concept, Expansion of Perception (EP), and Experiential Value (EV). Moreover, most of the students reflect that learning activities of Transformative Experiences promote the enjoyment to learning.
