Abstract:
The objectives of this study were: 1) to compare the English reading ability of Prathomsuksa 2 students before and after receiving phonics-based learning management, and 2) to compare the English reading ability of Prathomsuksa 2 students who received phonics-based learning management against the criterion of 70% of the total score. The sample group consisted of 20 Prathomsuksa 2 students from Ban Nong Kula School, Phitsanulok Primary Educational Service Area Office 1, Semester 1, Academic Year 2024, selected through multistage sampling. The research instruments included: 1) three phonics-based lesson plans, rated as highly appropriate, with an average score of 4.38 and a standard deviation of 0.04, and 2) a 20-item English reading ability test. The difficulty indices of the test ranged was 0.71, The accuracy value is between 0.67 - 1.00. The discrimination indices ranged was 0.43, and the reliability was 0.96. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, dependent sample t-tests, and one-sample t-tests.
The results indicated that:
1. Prathomsuksa 2 students who received phonics-based learning management had higher English reading ability after learning compared to before learning. The average pre-test score was 5.00 with a standard deviation of 2.13, and the average post-test score was 17.40 with a standard deviation of 1.54. The post-test average was significantly higher than the pre-test at the .05 level of statistical significance.
2. Prathomsuksa 2 students who received phonics-based learning management had the mean score of post-tests at 17.40 with a standard deviation of 1.54. Therefore, it can be concluded that the students who received phonics-based learning management scored significantly higher than the 70% criterion at the 0.05 significance level.
