Academic Administration Guidelines on Developing Journalistic Writing Manual for Journalism Students in Guangxi Vocational University of Agriculture
Abstract:
Academic administration guidelines are very important for various majors, It is also. necessary for teachers and students of journalism majors to develop effective academic. administration guidelines, which can help them get better academic administration guidelines for writing a manual for journalism students. The objectives of this research were: 1) to investigate the opinions on problems and needs of students, teachers and administrators towards the academic administration on the course of journalistic writing, and 2) to propose academic administration guidelines on developing journalistic writing manual for journalism students. The respondents of this study were 216 students, and 60 teachers and administrators at Guangxi Vocational University of Agriculture, obtained through "stratified random sampling". The research tools used in this study were questionnaires and a set of questions for the fours group discussion. The information and data collected were analyzed and presented in terms of frequency count, mean values, and standard deviation. The Likert rating scales were used to rate the level of problems and needs. The results showed that: 1) the problems and needs in the academic administration on the course of journalistic writing of Journalism students, and teachers and administrators were at the "high" level regarding the necessity of offering writing courses and students' needs. In term of curriculum, students mentioned that writing courses wasted many hours and caused students to feel tired at the highest level (X=4.81, S.D.=0:39). For the instruction part, students pointed out that they could not bear hardships and stand hard work, and they were unwilling to learn more knowledge at the highest level ( X =4.75, S.D.=0,43), For the evaluation part, students thought that what the teacher taught in class was not what they needed at the highest level (X =4.81, S.D. 0.39), and 2) The guidelines included how to nurture and support journalistic. writing skills, and how to manage classes effectively through academic administration. The developed manual writing for journalistic writing consisted of 5 units. All 5 units been evaluated by three experts, and the lOC value ranged from 0.67 to 1.00, indicating that the developed guidelines for journalistic writing courses were acceptable and could be used as a manual for journalism students to improve their writing skills and knowledge
