A Development of Strategic Guidelines for Occupational Counseling and Guidance for Students in Arts Program: A Case Study of Nanjing Institute of Visual Arts in Nanjing City, China
Abstract:
The objectives of this research were: 1) to investigate problems concerning employment. after graduation of students in the arts program; 2) to investigate the need for strategic guidelines for occupational counseling and guidance for students in the arts program; and 3) to develop strategic guidelines for occupational counseling and guidance for students in arts program. The respondents in this research were 150 students and 50 teachers obtained through stratified random sampling at Nanjing Institute of Visual Arts. The research instrument employed in this study was a questionnaire with 3 sections for 5 rating scales. The information and data collected were analyzed through the content analysis method and presented in terms of percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The findings indicated that: 1) students evaluated the problems of occupational counseling and guidance for the students in the arts program, the average score was at the high level (mean score=4.02, S.D. =0.45) and teachers/administrators evaluated problems of occupational counseling and guidance for the teachers, the average score was at the high level (X=4.16, S.D. =0.46). 2) 2) Students evaluated the need of occupational counseling and and guidance for the students in the arts program, the average score was at the highest level (mean score=4.35, S.D. =0.39) and teachers/administrators evaluated the need of occupational. counseling and guidance, the average score was at the highest level (mean score=4.42, S.D.=0.37). 3) The strategic guidelines for occupational counseling and guidance consisted of 3.1) the management of students' professional studies, 3.2) students' administration, 3:3) the student graduation management and registration workflow, 3.4) the student career planning education, 3.5) the management process of handling the problems and difficulties in careering planning for students, 3:6) the employment policy interpretation process for students, 3.7) the process of occupational counseling for students, 3.8) the supervision and evaluation mechanism workflow, and 3:9) employee occupational development management and tracking process.
