THE ENHANCEMENT OF CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDING SOLAR SYSTEM AND MOON APPEARANCE OF GRADE 4 STUDENTS BY USING LEARNING MIS MODEL SUPPLEMENTED WITH REPRESENTATION
Abstract:
This research aimed to compare the conceptual and consistent scientific understanding of the solar system and the moon's appearance using the learning MIS model supplemented with representation. The sample of this research was grade 4 students in a medium-sized primary school in Nong Han district, under Udon thani Primary Education Service Area Office 3, in the second semester of the academic year 2022. The sample consisted of 30 students selected by cluster random sampling. This research design was a one-group pretest-posttest design. The instruments of this research were 1) 5 lesson plans for learning the MIS model supplemented with a representation of the solar system and the appearance moon and 2) the conceptual understanding test of the solar system and the moon's appearance. The statistical data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and percentage to compare conceptual understanding before and after learning by t-test for a dependent sample and comparing consistent scientific with conceptual understanding before and after by Crosstab table and Chi-Square McNemar Test. The results of this study showed that 1) the student's conceptual understanding of the solar system and moon's appearance after learning (= 23.40/78.00%) was higher than before learning (= 3.60/12.00%) and 2) the students' a direction conceptual understanding of the solar system and the moon appearance shifted in a positive direction. Before learning, most students understand concepts that are not consistent with scientific concepts 96.33 % and few students understand concepts consistent with scientific concepts 3.67 % after learning, students understand concepts consistent with scientific concepts 85.67 % and have an understanding of concepts that are inconsistent with scientific 14.33 percent.
