Impact of PWM modulation schemes on common-mode voltage generated by 3-level neutral-point-clamped inverters
Abstract:
This paper presents a comparative study on the
impacts of various carrier-based PWM modulation schemes in
terms of common-mode voltages generated by 3-level neutral-point-
clamped inverters. In these modulation techniques, various
third harmonic voltage are injected into reference sinusoidal
voltages to improve modulation index, switching losses and
harmonics quality. The simulation results of the common-mode
voltage waveforms and their spectrums show that injected zero
sequence voltages can directly affect the generated common-mode
voltages, not only in the range of harmonic frequencies,
which are the frequencies of the zero sequence signal, but also in
the high-frequency range, which can potentially cause EMI problems.
