Influence of process parameters to fabricate free-standing carbon nanofibrous papers via electrospinning technique
Abstract:
Carbon nanofibrous papers (CNPs) prepared by electrospinning have garnered significant attention for their versatile applications, including in energy storage, filtration, and catalysis. The electrospinning process allows for the production of nanofibers with high surface area, tunable properties, and uniform morphology, which involves a range of parameters that affect the properties of the resulting nanofibrous papers, such as their morphology and structure. The importance of process parameters during electrospinning lies in their critical role in determining these properties. Fine-tuning these parameters allows researchers to optimize performance, tailor nanofibers for specific uses, and control the production process effectively. Here, the influence of process parameters during electrospinning performed at room temperature in airincluding voltage supply, spinning distance, fiber collection speed, and spinning durationon the dimensions (width and thickness) of the fabricated green nanofibrous papers was investigated. Polyacrylonitrile was used as the raw material, and the nanofibrous morphology of the green nanofibrous papers was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy. The findings suggest ways to adjust the electrospinning process parameters to achieve the desired shape of electrospun nanofibrous products. Furthermore, thermal treatment of the green nanofibers yielded electrospun CNPs with prominent properties, demonstrating their potential as advanced materials for diverse applications.
