Abstract: This thesis entitled “English Clauses in Practical Insight Meditation by Mahāsī Sayādaw Translated by U Pe Thin and Myanaung U Tin” has two objectives: 1) to study the types and functions of English clauses in Practical Insight Meditation by Mahāsī Sayādaw translated by U Pe Thin and Myanaung U Tin; and 2) to analyze the frequency of use of the English clauses in Practical Insight Meditation by Mahāsī Sayādaw translated by U Pe Thin and Myanaung U Tin. The study is qualitative research focusing on a documentary method by reading and studying some books concerning the topic of the problem. The researcher collected the information from the books, documents and data from the book “Practical Insight Meditation by Mahāsī Sayādaw” translated by U Pe Thin and Myanaung U Tin. The result of the findings was found that there are 203 dependent clauses. The researcher identified 3 types of dependent clauses depending on the theories. They are adverbial clauses, noun clauses and adjective clauses, including dependent clauses. The results of the findings also showed the distribution of dependent clause types. The adverbial is the most frequent type of dependent clause. Noun clause is about half as frequent than adverbial clauses. The least frequent dependent. The clause existing in my data is the adjective clause. The adverbial clause in a complex sentence is a subordinate clause that does the work of as adverbial and qualifies some nouns or pronouns in the main clause. The adverbial clauses classified further into Adverbial of Time which is the most frequent type of dependent adverbial clause. Adverbial clause of cause about is half more frequent than the adverbial clause of time. Adverbial clause of result and adverbial clause of condition are equal in frequency. The least adverbial clause that exists in my data is an adverbial clause of concession.
