Abstract:
The title of this research is A Study and Analysis of the Importance of Vedanā for Insight Meditation Practice in Vedanāsutta. The objectives of the research are; 1) to study the content and important principles in Vedanāsutta and 2) the importance of Vedanā for insight meditation practice in the Vedanāsutta. The data are gathered from Theravada Buddhist scriptures such as the Tipitaka, the commentaries and sub-commentaries. These are then summarized and written into a descriptive type. From the study, the findings were;
The teachings and essence in Vedanāsutta are that the Buddha stayed at Savatthi city, taught to Bhikkhus three feelings, and noble eightfold path cultivation for observing the said three feelings; 1) Sukkhavedanā or pleasurable feeling, 2) Dukkhavedanā or unpleasurable feelings, 3) Adukkhamasukkhavedanā or indifferent feelings. The eightfold path refers to middle way included; 1) Sammādiṭṭhi or right view, 2) Sammāsankappa or right perception, 3) Sammāvaca or right speech, 4) Sammākammanta or right deeds, 5) Sammā-ajīva or right livelihood, 6) Sammāvāyāma or right effort, 7) Sammāsati or right mindfulness, 8) Sammāsamādhi or right concentration.
The analysis of the importance of feeling for the development of Vipassana meditation in the Vedanāsutta revealed that the three feelings that are important to the development of Vipassana meditation. It is the determination of knowing the pleasurable and unpleasurable feelings that occur in physical and mental side. Its just a feeling that arises from a cause and effect only. This feeling arises because of a cause and effect, remaining due to its cause and effect, and extinguished due to, it is caused by factors that will eventually extinguish. Those who have developed insight meditation Dhamma principle in the Noble Eightfold Path, known as the middle path will be soon reach the Noble Path, Fruits and Nibbana to be released from all suffering heaps in Samsāra and reaching Nibbāna, which is the realm of true happiness.
