Abstract:
This cross-sectional study aims to investigate the prevalence and associated factors of depression among high school students in grades 10, 11, and 12 in Lamphun Province, under the jurisdiction of the Secondary Educational Service Area Office of Lampang and Lamphun, during the 2024 academic year. A total of 397 students were selected using multistage random sampling. Data were collected through a general information questionnaire and the Adolescent Depression Questionnaire, which demonstrated content validity ranging from 0.67 to 1.00 and a Cronbachs alpha reliability coefficient of 0.853. Descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, were used for data analysis, along with the Chi-Square test and logistic regression analysis. The Results revealed that 50.3% of the students exhibited depressive symptoms, with 5.8% experiencing severe depression and 3.8% classified as having major depression. Depression was most prevalent among LGBTQ+ students (72.7%). Additionally, 79.5% of students reported using smartphones for seven or more hours per day. A significant proportion of students with depression (56.5%) had a history of bullying or victimization. Factors significantly associated with depression among high school students in Lamphun Province included gender (p <0.05), daily smartphone usage (p<0.05), and experiences of bullying (p<0.05), with statistical significance set at the 0.05 level.
