Abstract:
The objective of this research is to study effect of wheat imports control measures and other related economic variables on demand for Thailands wheat imports during the years of 2014 to 2020. The multiple regression with Two-Stage Least Square (2SLS) method is employed for coefficient estimation. The result of this study shows that wheat imports control measures statistically significant affect to demand for Thailands wheat imports, during the period of imposing measures there has less amounts of import than not imposing period. It is consistent with empirical data of wheat imports about 1.66 million tones, value of 11,515 million baht, and average price of 6.95 baht per kilogram in 2017, whereas there are the amounts of wheat imports about 3.55 million tones, value of 25,235 million baht, and average price of 7.12 baht per kilogram in year of 2016. The amounts of wheat imports have decreased by 53.30 percent in 2017 compared to 2016. In addition, the result finds that economic factors affecting demand for Thailands wheat imports are price of imported wheat and imported soybean meal which have negative effect on the amount of wheat imports. Farm price of maize for animal feed and monthly average exchange rate have positive statiscally significant effects on the amount of wheat imports. The model has an adjusted R2 value of 0.70
