The mirage technique is an application of the photothermal phenomena effect to study the thermal properties of sample. The sample absorbs energy from the modulated laser pump beam. When the sample transfers heat energy, the fluid above the sample surface receives heat energy causing the temperature and the refractive index change. A laser probe beam pass through the fluid nearly parallel to the sample surface. Laser probe beam will refract because of the changing of refractive index. This changing was detected by the position detector and the amplitude signal was read by the lock-in amplifier. The aim of this research is to set up the mirage method and to compare thermal diffusivity of 3 solid samples, glassy carbon G (SGG), neutral density filter (ND) and zinc (Zn). SGG and ND are the standard samples, whereas Zn is the unknown samples. From experimental results, thermal diffusivity of SGG and ND were 6.4 x 10-6 and 6.6 x 10-7 m2s-1respectively. The comparison with reliable reference value shows the %Error of SGG and ND were 6.67%, 10.00% respectively. For the Zn sample, the thermal diffusivity of 4.2 x 10-5 m2s-1 was measured. This set-up can detect the thermal diffusivity of solid sample with smooth surface and high absorbance coefficient. It has good performance to detect the thermal diffusivity in the range of 10-5 to 10-7 m2s-1 and necessary to use only ethanol as fluid for the experiment. Due to the heat accumulated in pump laser resulting in instability heating to the sample, each experiment must be done in 30 minutes
