Abstract: The aim of this study were to give an overview of corruption and income inequality in ASEAN countries as well as to study the impact of corruption on income inequality by using panel data covering the period 2005 to 2018. The ASEAN countries include Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The data used for this study were collected mainly from the World Bank and Transparency International Anticorruption Center (TI). The findings suggest that corruption has a negative relationship with income inequality: country with a higher corruption level leads to a reduction of income inequality. In addition, the result indicates that higher education reduces income inequality whereas an increase in government expenditure as well as higher population growth rate lead to an increase in income inequality.
