Abstract:
Modified commercial microwave high-temperature oven is a modification of consumer household microwave oven using the microwave absorption properties of silicon carbide and activated carbon to generate heat. The microwave oven can be heated and controlled at temperature over 900o o C, with an average heating rate of 44 o C /min. The microwave oven was shown to be hold at temperatures of 550 and 850 o C for 30 minutes, with regulated temperature ranges of 550 ± 3 and 849 ± 5 o C. The results showed that this modified microwave oven was effective in heating, capable of sintering silver clay 925. The silver metal that has been sintered by the microwave oven has density of 8.5 g/cm3 and hardness of 62.3 Hv, which are properties that suitable and sufficient for use in the jewelry industry. The modified microwave oven has a high heating efficiency, inexpensive, saving time and energy can replace the use of electric furnaces.
