Abstract:
This research developed a poetry translation process based on Critical Discourse Analysis (van Dijk, 2009), which sees the importance of individualities in both ideology and language use. To translate Angkarn Kalayanaphong's poems, the process was used as translation framework, while other concepts were used as translation strategies, which are; strategies in poetry translation characterized by Lefevere (Lefevere, 1975) and Sanchawee Saibua (Sanchawee, 2553), the concept in Shift of Expression (Popovic, 1963) and Pimpan Vessakosol's Translation Thai into English (Pimpan, 2549). Translating was then attempted on three of Angkarn Kalayanaphong's poems reflecting his ideology on Buddhism, morality and politics in Thailand. Using the critical discourse analysis translation process, three English poems were translated from aforementioned ones. The translated poems were not only the result of the focus on two equivalences; the main idea and rhetorical figures, but also the result on the analysis of individualities, translation strategies and comprehension test upon target readers.
