Perception of remote drug dispensing system via automatic machine
Abstract:
This study investigates the perception of remote drug dispensing system via automatic machine in Thailand, with focus on perception survey and legal and regulatory review. This research utilized 6 parts questionnaires to obtain data from the sample group and provide descriptive statistics for perception survey. A legal and regulatory review were conducted by looking for relevant data and information. Then analyze the compliance with relevant laws and regulations, as well as developing the system to comply with legal requirements. All respondents who response the questionnaire must be resident in Thailand in any city, either gender, above or equal to the age of 20 and willing to complete the online questionnaire. The data from 474 respondents were analyzed for perception survey. Household remedies, vitamins and supplements, and cosmetics were selected as products with high confidence in purchasing via the automatic dispensing machine. The respondents have identified key factors affect their decision about using the machine including the quality of the product, pharmacist consultation, contact channels, cleanliness, service time, and payment methods. The additional factors that respondents suggested including stability in the operation of the machine, contact channels, product expiration date, filling out medication allergy, medicine history, and various drug options. There are a few concerns such as side effects, data security, accuracy, pharmacist consultation, shelf-life, product quality, incorrect dispensing, and contact after purchasing. Overall, respondents have a generally positive attitude and willingness to support remote drug dispensing system for the purpose of improving medication accessibility, convenience, and efficiency. The implementation of a remote drug dispensing system via automatic machine is based upon adherence to the Drug Act B.E.2510 (1967) and the announcement about standards and procedures for the Telepharmacy service from the Pharmacy Council of Thailand on June 2, 2020. Businesses that sell modern medicines must have a pharmacist on duty during business hours and dispensing, a pharmacists responsibilities include controlling the sale of medicine, giving advice on medication usage, and preventing any adverse drug reaction. The Pharmaceutical Profession Act highlights the legal requirement for pharmacist to participate in medicine dispensing, even in automated systems, by requiring pharmacists to have a license from the Pharmacy Council of Thailand. Therefore, the remote drug dispensing system via automatic machine has been enhanced with telepharmacy to comply regulatory standard and enable pharmacist participation. The Pharmacy Council of Thailand announced standards and procedures for telepharmacy services including system for create patient registration, patient profile, medical record, and voice record or video record during consulting services and follow-up after patients received medication. The pharmacists must obtain consent from patients to access their information and the system must keep patients information confidential. In the case of the machine accepts prescriptions, it requires prescription analysis and find drug-related problems system.
