The Development of Activity-Based Learning Management to Enhance Listening and Speaking Skills in The Chinese Language and Learning Attitudes of Lower Elementary School Students
Abstract:
This research aims to 1) create and evaluate the quality of an activity-based learning approach designed to develop listening and speaking skills in the Chinese language for lower elementary students. 2) Compare students' listening and speaking skills in Chinese before and after participating in the activity -based learning approach. 3) Study the attitudes of students towards the activity -based learning approach. The sample group of this research was 21 lower elementary students (Grades 1-3) from Ratchut School, Ban Phai District, Khon Kaen Province, during the second semester of the 2024 academic year. They were selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments included 1) lesson plans based on activity-based learning, focusing on the Chinese language club activities related to Chinese culture, comprising 5 units, 5 lesson plans, and 20 hours of instruction. 2) a test to measure listening and speaking skills in Chinese for lower elementary students. and 3) a questionnaire to assess the attitudes of lower elementary students towards activity -based learning. The statistical methods used for data analysis included the mean, standard deviation, and nonparametric statistics using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The research results found that: 1) the quality of activity-based learning management for developing listening and speaking skills in Chinese, was at the highest level of appropriateness (X̅ = 4.80, SD = 0.31) 2) students' listening and speaking skills in Chinese significantly improved after learning through activity-based learning management at a significance level at the .05 and 3) the attitude of students toward activity-based learning management was at a high level ((X̅= 4.44, SD. = 0.53)."
