A Blockchain-based business concept for fresh food package from farm to table
Abstract:
The rising demand for ethical consumption, coupled with evolving food standards and regulations, has brought significant changes to the Food Supply Chain (FSC), particularly affecting small and medium farmers. Besides the growing concerns of consumers for fresh food quality and traceability, the rising of concious living and the emerging trends of new diet lifestyles have brought new opportunity for the food business. This paper shows how blockchain technology benefits related participants in the food industry in terms of tokenization and traceability. By reviewing the technical aspects of recent blockchain-based systems, the study suggests a business concept for a food online application that provides quality and traceability fresh food packages from farm to table. This business concept is expected not only to enable transparency and traceability, but also to enhance participation of different stakeholders, especially farmers in a creative FSC to achieve a sustainable and ethical food ecosystem.
