Bridging the accreditation gap: ensuring credential recognition for Myanmar's educational online platforms in post-coup
Abstract:
This study analyzes the effects of the military coup in 2021 on Myanmar's education system. It emphasizes the growing significance of online educational platforms as crucial alternative providers during the continuing political unrest. This study, through qualitative research involving semi-structured interviews with representatives from five educational platforms, has identified the challenges related to the recognition and accreditation of qualifications offered by these platforms. These challenges have significant implications for students' future educational and professional prospects. The analysis, grounded in Mark Moores Strategic Triangle, assesses these platforms' public value, operational capacity, and legitimacy, revealing their critical role in sustaining education and fostering democratic empowerment. Strategic recommendations are proposed, categorized into short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals, to enhance the legitimacy, quality, and global integration of online education in Myanmar. The report concludes by urging the National Unity Government to implement these recommendations to not only secure educational opportunities but also contribute to a resilient, inclusive, and quality-focused education system capable of overcoming current challenges and paving the way for Myanmar's educational future.
