A survey of learning styles in English language learning of middle school students (grades 7 and 9) at a public school in Rayong Province
Abstract:
This study explores and compares the English learning styles of middle school students in Grades 7 and 9 at a public school in Rayong province, Thailand. A total of 120 students, 60 from each grade, were randomly selected from the researchers classrooms. The primary objective was to investigate the preferences for visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles among these students and identify any differences between the two grades. The researcher utilized a quantitative research method, adapting the Barsch Learning Style Inventory, a survey of learning styles to gather information for this study, and analyzed the data using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings indicate that both Grade 7 and Grade 9 students employ all three learning styles at a moderate level. However, Grade 7 students demonstrated higher mean scores in all three learning styles compared to Grade 9 students. Both groups preferred the auditory style the most, followed by kinesthetic and visual styles. This result can help in designing instructional strategies to enhance English language learning outcomes for middle school students.
