The Development of Reading Comprehension Skill on Important Events in the Al-Khulafa Al-Rashidin Period by Using SQ4R Teaching Method for Primary School Students, in Year 6
Abstract:
The objectives of this research were 1) to determine the effectiveness of the SQ4R teaching method for Al-Tarikh subject, 2 ) to develop reading comprehension skill using the SQ4R format, the Al-Tarikh subject for primary school students in year 6 using the 80/80 criteria, 3) to compare the learning outcomes of students before and after studying by the SQ4R teaching method for Al-Tarikh subject of primary
school students in year 6, and 4) to study the students satisfaction towards the SQ4R learning management in Al-Tarikh subject. The target populations used in this research were 20 primary school students in year 6 of Ban Tabing School, Saiburi district, Pattani province obtained by purposive sampling method. The research instruments consisted of 1) 8 plans using SQ4R teaching method, 2) reading comprehension test
using the SQ4R format with 30 items 3) 30 items of pre-test and post-test learning achievement. 4) students satisfaction assessment form with SQ4R learning management. The statistics to examine quality of instruments included 1) the content validity, test items difficulty, discrimination power, reliability and efficiency 2) the statistics to analyze the data were mean, standard deviation, and percentage.
The results showed that
1. The efficiency of the SQ4R teaching method was effective according to the criteria 80/80 at 83.88/85.33
2. Reading comprehension skills using the SQ4R model by the criteria 70 percent was 87.67
3. The students learning outcomes after studying with the SQ4R teaching method were higher, and the average scores were (24.80 > 15.30) with a statistically significant difference at the 0.05 level.
4. The students' satisfaction with the SQ4R learning management plans was at a high level (𝑥̅ = 4.25, S.D. = 0.29)
