Abstract:
Stable isotope analysis has widely been used as a tool for tracing food origin and food adulteration in various samples. In this study, oxygen isotope ratio (δ18O) in Thai Hom Mali rice was analyzed by elemental analyzer in pyrolysis mode prior to determine by isotope ratio mass spectrometer. A total of 34 Thai Hom Mali rice samples were collected from paddy fields in the northeastern region of Thailand. The values of δ18O in rice samples cultivated from the regions were +24.69 percent to +26.60 percent (Yasothon, n = 10), +23.87 percent to +26.67 percent (Roi Et, n = 19), and +23.65 percent to +24.71 percent (Surin, n = 5), respectively. The characteristics of δ18O values obtained in rice samples were identified using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by a Tukeys multiple comparison. One-way ANOVA showed a statistical difference (p < 0.05) in δ18O contents of rice samples cultivated from different provinces. Therefore, the data obtained in the work will be useful as the preliminary information for discrimination of rice origin.
