The participants were 70 EFL students who studied in grade 9 in a school in Sri Rattana District, Sisaket Province. The participants were placed into two groups. Both groups consisted of 35 students, a Quizizz group, and a handout group. The data was collected over six periods, one hour each. While the teaching involved the adaptive Dudeney and Hockly (2012) approach plus PPP (Presentation-Practice-Production) for both classes was the same, the practice was different. There were three research instruments: pre- and post-tests, an opinion questionnaire, and semi-structured interview questions.
The results revealed that using Quizizz as a practice was more effective than using conventional handouts as a practice to help students develop their ability to use phrasal verbs. It was statistically significant at a 95% statistical confidence level. Moreover, the result of the interviews showed that the students had positive opinions toward using Quizizz games as a practice to learn English phrasal verbs. Future research may explore whether Quizizz games can promote other aspects of English and online learning.
