Abstract:
The research titled Affecting Retention Factors of Labour Inspectors in Department of Labour Protection and Welfare aimed to explore the retention factors of the labour inspectors in the organization, and provide the research as a guideline to the Executives of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to apply and find solutions to solve the resignation and transfer of labour inspector problems. This research collected online questionnaires from 286 samples of labour inspectors in the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare.
The results found that the retention factors included age, years of experience, salary, hygiene and safety in working place, career development, and job stability, whereas gender did affect the retention of labour inspectors. Moreover, the results showed that the labour inspectors had an overall opinion at a high level. ( = 3.48)
The guideline from this study were as follows:
1) age, year experience, salary: the organization should focus attention on the new employees by providing a good relationship between the organization and employees, attach positive attitudes to the job, colleagues, and supervisors such as providing pre-job training with various departments to allow employees to familiarize with the job before being placed on active duty, as well as providing suitable salary to create motivation in the workplace;
2) hygiene and safety in working place: the organization should promote the facilities to the employee, such as providing suitable health programs, hygienic nursing rooms, adequate facilities e.g. parking
lots and resting area;
3) career development and job stability: the organization should provide adequate and fair promotion ranking that is suitable to employees performance, working experience, and readiness for a higher position.
It is recommended that future research should focus on the staff in other departments with similar job descriptions in order to examine other factors affecting staffs retention.
