A Model for Green Economy Community: Derivation from the Principles of Buddhist Economics
Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to 1) study the Buddhist Economic principles and its effects on society 2) investigate the green economic concepts and benefits for people in green cities 3) develop a Green Economy Community model based on Buddhist Economic Principles. This qualitative research is investigated with in-depth interviews with Buddhist experts and academics in the green economy.
The results found that:
1. The concept of Buddhist economics derives from Buddhisms emphasis on human economic activities. Buddhism demonstrates that the economy not only focuses on the output of production but also frequently misses the production process by balancing production and consumption. Buddhist economics seeks to assist people in becoming self-reliant; this concept is encouraged to initiate balance under the satisfaction and sufficiency of living, as well as the management movement mechanism, so as to assist in learning how to cohabit. In addition, it results in the management of the economy that focuses on production and combines productive components that support the economy, society, and culture by combining theory and practice to drive individuals in society. Buddhist economics focuses more carefully on the analysis and integration of ultimate goals and the quality of life impacts of the tools used to achieve these goals. This refers to a focus on the genuine nature of welfare and the psychology of desire, as opposed to simplistic and questionable beliefs that material acquisition has an unqualifiedly positive and direct relationship with happiness.
2. The concept of green economy is more inclusive. It is a comprehensive strategic approach that aims to improve the environmental outcomes of all economic activities over a predetermined time frame. The fundamental characteristics of a green economy can be classified as input, process, and output. The input dimension refers to the extent to which the resources used are sustainably exploited or harvested. The process dimension refers to the extent to which production processes are resource-efficient and environmentally friendly. A green economy empowers all individuals to be prosperous and successful. In addition, the purpose of the green economy is to generate genuine, shared prosperity. It emphasizes on accumulating wealth to promote well-being. This prosperity encompasses all forms of capital, including human, social, physical, and natural capital. The proposed concepts for green cities consider the three pillars of sustainability. To accomplish true sustainability, we must strike a balance between economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
3. The green economy is viewed as an important area of structural reform and aims to raise awareness of the real environmental, energy, and socio-economic situation of the world through environmental protection and the identification of optimal solutions and more effective tools to address the challenges facing society. The model for a green economic society in which social, economic, and environmental aspects are interconnected. Buddhist economics lays equal emphasis on all three of these areas. In accordance with the teachings, it also explores the foundations of a green economy and Eightfold Path is specifically concerned with correct endeavor, right mindfulness, and right concentration. Appropriate effort entails fostering wholesome mental states in order to comprehend ones position in a broader context. Right mindfulness awareness of the physical and mental dimensions of our experience, which entails remaining mindful and unaffected by avarice, as well as avoiding depression and self-indulgence.
