Abstract:
The dissertation aimed to achieve three main objectives: 1) Study the problems and causes of physical illnesses in patients. 2) Investigate the acupuncture treatment process for patients with physical illnesses using meditation and Dhamma music. 3) Evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment combined with meditation and Dhamma music. The research methodology employed qualitative research in three phases: Phase 1 utilized documentary research and interviews, Phase 2 involved focus group discussions, and Phase 3 incorporated documentary research and interviews. Data were collected from 12 Key Informants who practiced mindfulness meditation at the Buddhamahametta Foundation in Ayutthaya Province.
The findings revealed consistent physical health issues among patients, including pain and discomfort in various body areas such as the neck, shoulders, back, hands, feet, and joints. These symptoms were attributed to factors like repetitive movements, stress, poor posture, and physical strain. The study aimed to address these issues using acupuncture and mindfulness infused with Buddhist teachings. The comprehensive treatment protocol included watching patient videos, delivering apology speeches, using Dhamma music during treatment, immediate assessments, education on holistic body-mind care, and follow-up evaluations. A focus group supported this innovative approach. The evaluation of acupuncture treatment combined with meditation and Dhamma music yielded positive results. Patients reported significant reductions in pain across various body regions, improved mobility, and enhanced overall well-being. Some experienced complete pain relief, while others saw substantial reductions in pain intensity. Effective communication with healthcare professionals was identified as crucial for managing patients' conditions.
In summary, the dissertation successfully addressed the objectives by identifying common physical health issues, proposing a comprehensive treatment protocol, and demonstrating the positive impact of acupuncture combined with meditation and Dhamma music on patients with physical ailments.
