Abstract:
This research paper consists of 2 objectives as follows; (1) to study the teaching found in Ajjhattikāyatana sutta and (2) to study the development of Vipassanā meditation practice in Ajjhattikāyatana sutta.Theresearch methodology is documentary based on references of Theravāda Buddhist scriptures and other relateddocuments, then accumulated to be analyzedand summarized, edited, corrected andverified by advisor. From the study, it was found that;
Ajjhattikāyatanasuttais fromSuttanta, Sangyuttanikāya, Mahāvāravagga.In Ajjhattikāyatana-sutta, the Buddha preached the way to develop Four Noble Truths: 1) Dukkha-ariyasaccarefers to 6 innerspheres of perception (Salāyatana) which are cakkhāyatana, sotāyatana, ghānāyatana, jivhāyatana, kāyāyatana, manāyatana, 2) Dukkhasamudaya-ariyasaccaor the noble truth of suffering origin,
3) Dukkhanirodha-ariyasacca, 4) Dukkhanirodhagāminīpaṭipatā-ariyasaccaetc. Heencouraged Bhikkhusto practice energetically in order to realize the truth accordingly; (1) the arising of 6 inner spheres of perceptionisDukkha-ariyasacca (2) craving insensual desire, existence and non-existence desire contacted with 6 inner spheres of perception is called Dukkhasamudaya-ariyasacca, (3) the cessation of craving which arises from6 inner spheres of perception is calledDukkhanirodha-ariyasacca, (4) the following Noble Eightfold Path and concentrating to cessation of cravingswhich arise from 6 inner spheres of perception is called Dukkhanirodhagāminīpaṭipatā-ariyasacca.
Vipassanā meditation practicein Ajjhattikāyatana-sutta was seen that 6 inner spheres of perception arethebases of insight practice following Four Noble Truths as follows: 1) Dukkha Ariya-sacca should be set to know 6 inner spheres of perception by their true manners, impermanence, 2) Dukkhasamudaya-ariyasaccashould be abandoned, 3)Dukkhanirodha-ariyasaccaor walking to cessation should be clearlydone, and 4) Dukkhanirodhagāminīpaṭipatā-ariyasaccashould be fully developed. These 4 Noble Truthsshould be rightly applied forinsight practice energetically in order to realize that this issuffering, this origin of suffering, this the cessation of suffering, and this the way to cease away all sufferings. TheseFour Noble Truths should also be realized for 3 rounds, 12 mannerscompletely, rightly,only then one can be a Noble One who complete enlightened
