Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand in January 2020 resulted in the government taking intense measures to control the outbreak. The lockdown measures began on March 26, causing the economy to halt and many sectors being affected. In the first quarter of 2020, the three main sectors experienced economic losses: agriculture (-5.7%), industry (-1.9%) and services (-1.1%). Construction activities halted and decreased by 9.9% in the first quarter. Given the ongoing impact COVID-19 and the significance of the construction industry, this study focused on examining the impact of the pandemic on the profitability of 43 Thai public construction companies with an aim to understand the magnitude and nature of the impact. The study collected the quarterly statement data from year 2020 to 2021 of each company publicly available on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and company's website. The quarterly statement data were aggregated, compared, and analyzed Year-on-Year before and after COVID-19 period using three profitability indicators: Return on Assets (ROA), Current Ratio, and Net Profit Margin. The findings demonstrated that more than half of the companies were affected financially during the post-pandemic years and that the group of construction operators were impacted much more than the group of construction material manufacturers/suppliers.
