Abstract:
The objectives of this research were to compare the grade 7 junior school students 1)
listening skills in Western music and attitudes before and after providing the teaching with the
Dalcroze approach, 2) listening skills in Western music and attitudes before and after providing
the teaching with a regular method, and 3) listening skills in Western music and attitudes
between providing the teaching with the Dalcroze approach and the teaching with a regular
method. The sample consisted of 40 grade 7 junior high school students studying in the first
semester of the academic year 2022 from Matthayombuddhanikom School, Chiya District,
Surat Thani Province. Obtained by the simple random sampling, the sample contained the
experimental group and the control group with 20 students each. The research instruments
included a lesson plan for listening skills designed by the Dalcroze approach, a regular lesson
plan for listening skills, a test for listening skills, and a test for attitudes towards the teaching
of listening skills. The statistics used were the percentage, mean, dependent t-test and
independent t-test. The results were concluded as follows. 1) The students listening skills in
Western music after providing the teaching with the Dalcroze approach were higher statistically
significant at .01. 2) The students listening skills in Western music after providing the teaching
with a regular method were higher statistically significant at .01. 3) The students listening skills
in Western music after providing the teaching with the Dalcroze approach were higher than
the teaching with a regular method statistically significant at .01. 4) The students attitudes
towards the teaching of listening skills in Western music after providing the teaching with the
Dalcroze approach were higher statistically significant at .01. 5) The students attitudes towards
the teaching of listening skills in Western music after providing the teaching with a regular
method were higher statistically significant at .01. 6) The students attitudes towards the
teaching of listening skills in Western music after providing the teaching with the Dalcroze
approach were higher than the teaching with a regular method statistically significant at .01.
