Abstract:
The objectives of this research were (1) to study the level of cultivating the morality and ethics of monks for students at Benjamarachutit School, Ratchaburi Province, (2) to compare the students opinions toward cultivating the morality and ethics of monks for students at Benjamarachutit School, Ratchaburi Province by classifying according to personal factors of respondents and (3) to study problems, obstacles and suggestions of cultivating the morality and ethics of monks for students at Benjamarachutit School, Ratchaburi Province. The research methodology was a mixed method research. In part of the quantitative research, a questionnaire was used as a tool to collect field data from 216 high school students at Benjamarachutit School, Ratchaburi Province, data was analyzed by finding frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, hypothesis was tested by t-test, f-test, one-way ANOVA and in part of qualitative research, document analysis and the interview form were used as the tools for collecting field data from 9 key informants and analyzing the data with contextual content analysis techniques.
The results showed that
1. The level of cultivating the morality and ethics of monks for students at Benjamarachutit School, Ratchaburi Province, in general, was at high level with an average of 4.41, when considering individually, it was found that cultivating the morality and ethics of monks in all eight aspects were at high level: (1) diligence (2) thriftiness (3) honesty (4) discipline (5) politeness (6) cleanliness (7) unity and (8) kindness and this kindness had the highest average of 4.41, and the thriftiness had the lowest average of 4.08.
2. The comparison of students opinions toward cultivating the morality and ethics of monks for students at Benjamarachutit School, Ratchaburi Province by classifying according to personal factors of respondents was found that personal factors were gender, academic performance, parents occupation, and income had opinions cultivating the morality and ethics of monks for students at Benjamarachutit School, Ratchaburi Province, in general was no different, therefore rejected the research hypothesis.
3. The problems, obstacles of cultivating the morality and ethics of monks for students at Benjamarachutit School, Ratchaburi Province was found that the students were not enthusiastic about doing various activities, did not plan on spending things wisely, helped their peers in the wrong way, such as copying homework, some students did not plan on doing homework and some groups did not do and submit their homework. Therefore, the suggestions for promoting the cultivating the morality and ethics of monks for students at Benjamarachutit School, Ratchaburi Province were that teachers, monks and parents must cooperate in cultivating students behaviors to have the eight attributes both at school and home, and the monks should apply the Dhamma principles for everyday life of students by emphasizing on the understanding of them, cultivating morals and ethics to be up-to-date in modern times, appreciating the importance, necessity of the use of Dhamma principles in life to be able to live in society happily.
