Abstract:
This thesis An Educational philosophy of Buddhadăsa bhikkhu: an analysis of its relevance to the online social media age has three objectives: 1) to study the concept of Buddhadãsabhikkhus philosophy of education, 2) to study the concept on philosophy of education in the era of social online media, and 3) to analyze the relevance of the concept of Buddhadãsabhikkhus philosophy of education in the era of social online media. This research employed the documentary research methodology.
In the study of first objective, it was found that the human nature is basically endowed with defilement whereby man lives life according to the given instinct. Later on, man comes to comprehend that it is necessary for man to uplift his mind above such instinct in order to meet the betterment. In this respect, Buddhadãsabhikkhu is of the view that education helps man rise up over the instinct because it provides man with proper understanding on the ideas caused by I and mine to which man is attached. Such attachment requires mans endless effort in satisfying the unlimited desire without appropriate consideration as to whether or not such an act is moral. To solve this problem, it becomes necessary for man to have education and the good education is the one that points out to the unreality of I and mine concept, what really exists is the emptiness or Suññată.
In the study of second objective, it was found that in the era of social online media the education basically supports the required skills whereby it needs to be developed and thereby processing its development as the ladder steps starting from the development of curriculum being suitable to the ages, of teaching and learning staffs, of getting learners skilled according to the basic and desirable skills based on the 21st standardization, of creating the body of knowledge and research which affect on the innovation whereby information technology is utilized to support various administration in order to qualitatively bring about the effectiveness to certain management professionally.
In the study of third objective, it was found that when it comes the concept of Buddhadãsabhikkhus philosophy of education, four aspects are relevant to philosophy of education in the era of social online media: 1) learning is aiming at empowering the learners to solve daily life, 2) education is regarded as the basis or social skills whereby man can be perfected. What is irrelevant is of the following ones: 1) on the one hand, Buddhadãsabhikkhus concept of education lays great emphasis on uplifting man over the instinct resulting in putting an end to the concept of I and mine, on the other hand, the concept of education in the era of social online media is prioritized on the concept of self and occupation leading to satisfying more individual and social needs than the ideal of manhood, 2) according to Buddhadãsabhikkhus view, the ideal education is to develop mans wisdom by which individual suffering could be got rid of. Although, the morality in living together is mentioned, yet it just claims that one who follows morality would succeed in doing it no matter what a work is, whereas the occupational skills are required to suit the social and economic systems so as to solve certain problems precipitated by such social or economic systems.
