Abstract:
We studied the electrostatic charge generation and accumulation that appeared in the nonwoven fabric production process. The electrostatic potential data of synthetic fabric, polypropylene, were collected via a non-contact measurement method. The electrostatic potential of the polypropylene before and after the primary roll to roll process was 1.046 kV and 13.245 kV, respectively. As a result, there is electrostatic discharge (ESD) from the synthetic fabrics roll to the operator. Besides, we also provide a suitable method for reducing ESD on the polypropylene roll to the operator by installing an aluminum grounding rod at 30 cm distance from the fabric roll. An aluminum grounding rod can induce a highly localized electric field at a specific point, resulting in reducing the average static potential from 13.245 kV to 2.4 kV. Therefore the work environment is in safety for operators for ESD who come in contact with synthetic fabrics roll.
