Curcuma alismatifolia, an ornamental plant with beautiful flower in the curcuma genus which is famous both in Thailand and in other countries. C. alismatifolia has been improved for the market needs. This research aimed to induce mutation and to study the effects of electron beam and gamma ray on tissue culture of Curcuma hybrids Laddawan. The eight-week-old plantlets were irradiated by acute gamma ray, the dose rate is 6.37 Gy/min and for the electron beam irradiation, samples were exposed to 10 MeV electron beam. The result of gamma ray irradiation at dose 0 - 50 Gy showed that survival percentage decreased when the radiation dose increased. However the growth percentage of 10 - 30 Gy samples were not significantly different from the non - irradiation samples. In addition, the growth percentage of 40 and 50 Gy samples were decreased when the radiation dose increased. The chlorophyll content of 10 Gy samples were not significantly different from the non - irradiation samples but the chlorophyll content of 20 -50 Gy samples were decreased when the radiation dose increased. The comparison between the effects of gamma ray and effect of electron beam irradiation at dose 0, 50, 100 and 200 Gy showed that the survival percentage, growth percentage and chlorophyll content were significantly decreased (P<0.05) when radiation dose increased. The survival percentage, growth percentage and chlorophyll content of gamma-irradiated samples were higher than the electron beam-irradiated samples in the same dose. The results can beused to determine the optimum dose ranges for gamma irradiation on tissue culture of curcuma hybrids Laddawan is 30 60 Gy and for electron beams expose to should be less than 50 Gy. The results in M1V2and M1V3showed that the new characteristic (variegated leaves and light green leaves) in irradiated samples were found. However, to select the flower colors mutation, the samples must be planted in natural conditions
