Abstract:
The objective of this research is to study and compare the level of self-development need of staff at a beverage production company in Amata Nakhon Industrial Estate, Chonburi Province, classified according to sex, age, education level, position and work experience as well as to offer suggestions regarding the issue. The research tool is a 5-level questionnaire about self-development needs in four areas: 1) training; 2) technology; 3) ethics and morality, and; 4) the mentoring system. The study population was 200 staff members chosen using Yamanes formula (Yamane, 1973) and the statistics used were frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation.
The results of the research indicate that the staff had a high level of self-development need. Divided by development area, training, technology and ethics and morality, respectively, all showed a high level of need, while the mentoring system showed a medium level of need. When staff needs were analysed by characteritics, women had a higher level of need than men; staff under 25 had a higher level of self-development need than other age groups; Bachelors degree graduates had a higher level of need than other educational types; human resources staff had the highest level of need among the positions, and; staff with a work experience of 6-10 years had higher needs than other age groups. According to the results, most staff requested sermons from respected monks as a desirable technique in self-development.
