Abstract:
This research is aimed at studying about relationship between mass rapid transit (urban rail) in Bangkok and the classified population by residential types (House and Condominium type) and destination types (Office and School Types). The socio-economic data is derived from water metering data by Metropolitan Waterworks Authority of Thailand (MWA). This study uses locations of water metering to represent locations of population and employment variables residing within mass rapid transit station catchment area of 250 to 10,000 meters from station reference points. At present, The Direct Demand Model is widely used in many researches in many countries because the spatial data allow the researchers to study about the relationships among variables in various fields such as using mobile data to study about the customers in difference area. In this research, there are more than 1.8 million records of water metering data classified by type of building representing socio-economic data. The developed direct demand model suggests that the access distance from housing resident is longer than 7 kilometers while the access distance from condominium residents to mass transit rapid station is within the range of 500 meters to 6 kilometers. For home-base work trip, the model suggests that the access distance to mass rapid transit station is within 250 meters to 1,750 meters. Overall, the model suggests that the optimal access distance to mass rapid transit for transit-oriented development is within 750 meters. It is recommended that there should be further study in more details of the relationship between optimal access distance to transit station and other socio-economic data including population status, occupation rate, age etc
