The development and psychometric evaluation of the public-mindedness inventory in senior high school students in Bangkok
Abstract:
The research aimed to develop and validate the psychometric properties of public-mindedness inventory in senior high school students in Bangkok. The 479 students studying in schools administered under the secondary educational service area in Bangkok were divided into two groups. The 60 students were randomized to select qualified items and the 419 students were randomized to validate the psychometric properties. The research tool was public-mindedness inventory both in rating and situational version developed by the researcher. After the analytical process, the index of item-objective congruence (IOC) ranging from 0.67 to 1.00 and 0.67 to 1.00, corrected item-total correlation (CITC) ranging from 0.30 to 0.62 and 0.33 to 0.74, construct reliability (CR) ranging from 0.62 to 0.80 and 0.61 to 0.84, average variance extracted (AVE) ranging from 0.37 to 0.58 and 0.35 to 0.63, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient valuing 0.92 and 0.93 were found in rating and situational version, respectively. The second-ordered confirmatory factor analysis also found that the empirical data were fit to the model test of both rating and situational model. Besides, the positively significant correlation was found between rating and situational version (r = 0.25). These findings can verify the psychometric properties of public-mindedness inventory. Thus, public-mindedness inventory can be an alternative instrument for measuring public-mindedness in senior high school students and could be used for further researches
