Abstract:
The main objective of this research article is to study and to synthesize knowledge concerning non-tariff barriers (NTBs) and their impacts on the strategic adjustment of the Thai orchid exporting business via SWOT analysis and TOWS matrix (as the tools for environmental competitiveness assessment). The research methodology includes literature review and document study, as the construction of an analytical framework for further research covering all related variables is expected.
Basically, the research result indicates that; First, NTBs causing problems and impediments, requiring both Thai government sector and business sector to collaborate in an integrative pattern in order to lessen the devastative impact and to maximize efficiency by relying on international free trade forums. Second, the strategic move of Thai orchid exporting business in the context of NTBs should begin with assessing business environment, analyzing competitive conditions and overall situation, all will contribute to strategic choices identified by employing TOWS Matrix.
Recommendations from the research include systematic analytical pattern on problems an impediments caused by NTBs The solutions should be developed in consideration of both areas of Economics and international Trade Laws that enable both defensive and offensive Thai international trade policies in the world trade arenas (i.e. WTO, APEC, ASEM , ASEAN, etc.) and in the level of bilateral trading partners.
