Abstract:
This research employed in-depth interviews with 15 principal informants in Chonburi, Burirum and Krabi provinces for the purposes of 1) identifying current conditions and problems concerning exercising in local communities, 2) analyzing physical conditions concerning exercising in local communities, and 3) developing successful sports management for local communities. The research also employed group discussions with experts in the field to identify suitable sports management practices for local communities. The research revealed a need for local plans to comply with government targets, with concrete and clear guidelines to smoothly implement policies. The result also indicated the central governments need for efficient, well-experienced and knowledgeable units and resources to effectively manage and support sports for public health. The units should incorporate channels for public communication to collect information for making further improvements to provide safe, age-appropriate sports for public health. The results also indicated a need for community support in providing and maintaining sports venues, facilities and safe environment. In addition, the study also found a need to have standard criteria or performance indicators for successful sports management in local communities, as well as a need for analysis of problems particular to each community inorder to achieve common goals and move towards professional sports at national level over the long term.
