Abstract:
The research aimed to study the performance and emission of a small gasoline engine using gasoline 95 and gasoline 95 blended with 10% tert-butanol as fuel. The gasoline engine was installed with an engine dynamometer. The engine was tested at 2,500 rpm and half load condition (50% engine load). The results showed that the small gasoline engine using gasoline 95 as fuel had higher engine torque and power than the gasoline-tert-butanol blended fuel, around 37.50% due to the low heating value of tert-butanol. For the emission, the amount of CO and HC, emitted from the engine using blended fuel, had lower emissions than gasoline 95 at 32.88% and 13.79% respectively, because tert-butanol had lower carbon than gasoline 95 and oxygen content in its molecule, improving the combustion process
