Enhancing students vocabulary in social studies lessons by using a graphic organizer strategy Frayer model
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the Graphic Organizer Strategy Frayer Model on students' vocabulary knowledge and examine their attitudes towards the strategy in Social Studies lessons. The study involved 39 students from a private boys' school in Bangkok. A quantitative research approach was utilized, employing a "one-group" design where participants were measured twice. The One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design was used to assess the effectiveness of the Graphic Organizer strategy for vocabulary instruction. Pretest and posttest assessments were administered, along with a questionnaire to gather students' attitudes and suggestions. The posttest results revealed a significant improvement in students' vocabulary knowledge. Additionally, the questionnaire data confirmed the participants' high levels of positive attitudes towards the use of the Graphic Organizer Strategy Frayer Model in acquiring Social Studies vocabulary. The Frayer Model thus appears to be a valuable tool for enhancing vocabulary and understanding key concepts in Social Studies, with potential applications in other subjects
