Abstract:
This study explored perceptions the experience of Flow States in Thai Professional golfers. Golf is a sport which is well-known for very challenging, can played since children to old aged due to the intensity of this sport being around light to medium. By the process, semi structured interviews were conducted with 10 Thai Professional golfers. The sample group were conducted by purposive sampling method which is suitable for select the sample to clearly answer the objective. The sample group of Thai professional level golfers consist of 4 men and 6 women. The data in this study were analyzed quantitatively by the method called Reflexive Thematic Analysis (RTA). Four categories were generated which described the flow experiences of these golfers. 1. The ability to regulate emotions 2. Goals and confidence 3. Flow States is associated with positive mental states. 4.Flow States can be developed. After finished, the results were compared to the original flow dimensions after analysis with Csikszentmihalyi (1975) and Swann (2014). In contrast to previous understanding, these golfers reported the factor which is difference from previous study. Golfers reported that flow can be developed by the training of the mental process. In addition, the participants also suggested that research future should explore more on the definition of flow in many contexts and also the training program that lead to the happening of Flow State. Recommendations made for future research may revisions to the flow framework to better describe this experience within golf and other sports to keep developing all the players.
