Analysis of arsenic speciation in drinking water by capillary electrophoresis
Abstract:
Analysis of arsenic speciation by capillary electrophoresis was developed. The different arsenic species including Arsenite (As(III)), arsenate (As(V)), Methylarsonate (MMA), and Dimethylarsinate (DMA) were studied. To detect trace arsenic in drinking water by photometric detection method, stacking technique, large-volume sample stacking with polarity switching and high sensitivity cell were investigated. It was found that the optimal conditions were 20 mM borate buffer, pH 9.6, injection time of 0.3 min in flush mode, and separation voltage of 20 kV. Detection limits for Arsenite, Dimethylarsinate, Methylarsonate, and arsenate were 9.5, 20.6, 42.0, and 85.0 mu g L-1, respectively. Analysis could be achieved within 15 min. Coefficient of correlation values of calibration curves were more than 0.996. Percent recoveries of the analytes were between 91 and 110.
